In 1995, Barbara O’Hara started to create beautiful wedding cakes and pastry tables, focusing on advanced sugar work, with the help of her husband Richard. With great response, in 1997 they leased a kitchen in the basement of a local church, became health licensed, and a business partnership was born. “Dessert Sinsations & Design”, located on River Avenue in Winnipeg, opened its doors to Winnipeg in 1999. The shop featured scratch made pastries, decorated occasional and wedding cakes, and giftware. In 2006, they expanded their business and moved to downtown Winnipeg, opening “Dessert Sinsations Cafe” at 505 St. Mary Avenue, a full service restaurant serving fresh made lunch, dinner, and late night. The Cafe is open for breakfast on Saturdays, and has garnished great reviews.It’s a family affair, with Barbara and Richard’s two daughters, Leah and Julie O’Hara, working in the restaurant and happily serving the everyday clientele.
A strong palate and a continuing passion for decadent, healthy food has been a key influence in the operation of the business.
